This is a workshop for sailors who want to start to prepare the electrical systems of their boat for offshore. How will you create, store and use the electrical power you need: whether it be 12v or 110? Batteries, charging, wiring, backups, spares... Jeff Cote is a systems design engineer and is Western Canada's only NMEA instructor: so what electronics too do you want to be able to power up with while you are "out there"?!

Vancouver - 2018: Basic Weather with Scott Crawshaw- Saturday April 21, 2018

An understanding of basic weather is an important attribute of seamanship. This course is aimed at the cruiser who will be sailing in internal waters and has access to VHF radio broadcasts and possibly even the internet. This 1/2-day workshop will introduce cruisers to the fundamentals of weather, which include Air Circulation Patterns; Pressure, Temperature and Moisture; Air Masses; Fronts and Cyclogenesis; Fog, Clouds and Precipitation; and Interpreting Weather Maps.

Vancouver - 2018 Intermediate Weather with Scott Crawshaw- Saturday April 21 & Sunday April 22, 2018

Forecasting weather conditions are major aspects of cruising under sail and power. This course is aimed at the cruiser who aspires to head offshore and includes a virtual planning of the Vic-Maui Route, a race that presenter Scott Crawshaw won in 2000 with Navy training vessel HMSC Oriole. Building on the lessons learned, these1 ½ days focus on Anti-Cyclones; Swell & Sea Waves; Surface Water Circulation; Upper Air Charts & Satellite Imagery; Gap & Promontory Winds; Tropical & Sub-Tropic & more.
