While some BCA members are «swimming» in it... and probably don't have to worry about such trivial things, most of us, when times comes to cast away for a few years will have had and will have on a continuing basis to manage our pennies pretty tightly.

 

I am wondering if there would be interest in putting together a session that would help us sift through financial management as we prepare to sail off but also once abroad for a few years. Clearly all the doners have had this experience and as always the common accrued wisdow of BCA members could be put to use here in a formal manner. With luck, there is a financial wizard hiding amongst us...

 

Anyone interested ??

This is an issue for everyone trying to manage a portfolio from the ocean, regardless of how large or small.  We have begun discussing it, including how to avoid foreign exchange fees, managing stocks and electronic trading (and avoiding fees), emergency cash for dependents, etc.

It would be helpful to hear from others.  I'd be happy to host a gathering at the False Creek Yacht Club to discuss the topic if others are interested.  Maybe it is a topic of Fleet??

I would love to put on a talk or a series of seminars. First off I am a doner, my wife and I just got back from a 2 year trip aboard our 36 ft Union Cutter Cypraea. I'm also a Financial Planner, and close to completing an accounting designation.

If there are people who are interested let me know, I must add the world has changed greatly in the last 5 years with reguards to mobility and access to info. We found this had interesting impacts on how people are cruising these days relative to how they cruised even 10 years ago.
