Greetings all,

As I mentioned in another recent post, we have recently acquired a Nauticat 32. What didn't get mentioned last time is that we bought her from a remarkable sailor who was preparing her for his next single-handed circumnavigation, - even though he was in his 90s. One of the key pieces of offshore gear he added was a hydrovane. This is a wonderful piece of kit, but far beyond our needs. Our respected predecessor ran into some health issues before casting off, so my understanding is that the hydrovane has never been used on the deep sea, and I'm not even sure that it had a sea trial in its local waters. However, it has been baked in the Texas sun for something like 5 years, and a neighbour had an awkward docking experience that led to a "good-as-new" repair in 2023.

Looking at current pricing, a new one appears to sell for over $8,500 CAD, before tax. For us, clear access to the steps on our sugar-scoop stern will be more helpful than a Hydrovane. Besides, this classy device deserves to be on a boat headed for blue water.

Because of the age, sun, and (successful) repair, we propose a 1/2 new cost asking price of $4,250 CAD. We would consider offers, and might consider a trade for a quality hypalon inflatable.

Happy sailing!

Jim & Anne

S.V. Suksma
