Hi Folks

It looks like it’s time for my standing rigging to be tuned.

does anyone have any recommendations on for a rigger in Vancouver who can help me tune the rig and teach me a bit along the way. I’d prefer doing it myself but I’d like guidance first.

thanks

Mark

HI MARK

Riggers around Vancouver vary wildly in expertise. There are quite a few jokers out there. The only one that seems to retain somewhat of a reputation is Steve White. But again, reports on his work vary.

There are a couple of shops on Granville Island, no idea what they are worth.

The guy that took over from Brion Toss in Port Townsend is the only one that I would recommend 100%.
Usually they’ll do a good rig inspection before tuning. They use tension meters to compare tension between wires. They are thorough and generous with sharing knowledge. I think they still hold a workshop every year to teach sailors.
.
Be wary of anyone that goes twang twang on your shrouds, turns a turnbuckle a couple of times and says good to go.

good luck

jb
