Last night at Fleet I asked if there was a recommended First Aid course for boaters and it was suggested that I look at BCIT for a course that is part of a larger curriculum but that could be taken separately... a 5 day intensive study.

I looked... I can't find it... I'll look again

Has anyone else taken a first aid course for sailing that could be recommended, including CPR, AED and marine specific topics?

Hi there,

I'm actually investigating this one right now.

1. On Vancouver Island: There is a Basic Marine First Aid course for BCA that is offered on the May 4th/5th weekend. This is probably what you are looking for.
https://www.alertfirstaid.com/courses/first-aid-courses/marine-basic-first-aid-with-c-level-cpr

Lionel is the contact for the course for BC (see the Calendar side panel)

2. Advanced Marine First Aid (AMFA): This is offered through various course conductors: Alert First Aid etc.
I'm taking it through http://www.firstaid.ca/mafa/4558795852 . This was the place that was recommended in one of our fleet courses.

This one is similar to a first responder

3. Marine Medical Care (This is the one I actually want to take but I need the AMFA first).
http://www.firstaid.ca/marine-medical/4558796026
This one is taught at BCIT at the Marine Campus but registration is through the first aid group. From my understanding it fills up with the cadets.

Note: There is this: https://www.vicmaui.org/offshore-first-aid . But not available this year. I've sent an email inquiry.
