Arid Bilge - gets rid of all the water

Here is an interesting piece of equipment that solved a difficult problem on Namo last year. Arid Bilge is a pump that keeps the bilges dry by sucking up the last inch of water left by conventional bilge pumps.

We had a problem with salt water collecting under the engine on top of our reserve fuel tank causing corrosion of the tank fittings and water ingress into the diesel tank. Not pleasant. The water originated mainly from our stuffing box and was not completely eliminated with the Whale electric bilge pump.

The Arid Bilge unit is a small, centrally located vacuum pump that provides water pickup to various compartments via 1/8" hoses with small pads or wands at the ends. We bought a unit that extracts water from two locations (the engine bilge and the main bilge) although higher capacity models are available. Every three hours the unit automatically switches on and senses water in the bilges. If it detects any, it cycles until it is all gone. The results are completely dry bilges with a corresponding reduction in odor and the potential for corrosion.

Great product although probably the most expensive "bilge pump" one can buy. The website is www.aridbilge.com.
