We are considering installing a wash down pump to rinse down the anchorchain prior to stowage. In the PNW we have always splashed a bucket or two of water on the muddy chain, but since we will be cruising long distance I'm wondering whether we need to install a through hull and wash down pump for Mexico and the tropics. Perhaps not, with a sandy bottom. What are other's experiences?

Can anyone recommend a good machinist-mechanic who might be able to repair a damaged Quick Antares windlass? It was supplied with a shaft of insufficient length with the result that the driving bushing was damaged. The shaft has to be lengthened and the bushing repaired. Spare parts do not seem to be easily available.
