Looking for Adventurers: Solomon Islands to Japan 0 D. Harris Hi, my name's Dan and I'm a new captain sailing my family boat from the Solomons to Japan as part of multi-leg trip from New Zealand to Canada. This is the boat that my father built and that I grew up on. She's basic but solid (steel) 34 ft sloop (Ganley Shadow) and sails well. I've grown up sailing on this boat and have crewed in the Carribean and on crossings from Tonga to NZ, Fiji to NZ, NZ to Vanuatu and the BVI to New England and Maryland.  I'm looking for crew for a passage from the Solomon Islands to the the Southern Islands of Japan with stop offs in Papua New Guinea and Palau. The plan is to return to the Solomons first week of March (2020) then spend two to three weeks getting her ready and leave the Solomons for Palau at the end of March. Get to Paula by the end of April and have a week or so to rest before heading onto the Southern Islands of Japan and getting there about mid-May. After that we'll take about a month and half cruising up the Southern Island chain before bedding her down in the South of Japan. I'm looking for crew who can either do the whole voyage or one of the legs from either the Solomons or PNG to Palau or from Palau to Japan. Up to you. Ideally I'm looking for good sailors with some solid experience. If you lack experience then practical skills are highly desirable - can you cook? Sow? Fix a generator or an outboard? Good with electrics? Most important is someone down to earth and relaxed who can keep calm and roll with the punches and isn't prone to panic under stress. Being able to follow instructions and handle being told what to do is also important. Money wise, I'm looking for crew who can pay their way including chipping in for provisions and fuel and covering their own costs but that's it. If you're interested in joining the voyage or know someone who is then send an email to

Cruising and crewing opportunities in the Atlantic and Caribbean 0 R. Morris The Catamaran Oh! will be cruising the Caribbean and Atlantic over the next 18 months. There are many opportunities for gaining blue water sailing experience. Oh! will be cruising in the Eastern Caribbean islands, making short passages, or even gaining open ocean experience on multi day overnight passages. There are also 2 transatlantic crossings and 5 short Atlantic and Caribbean passages available to participate on. The first opportunity is a passage from Norfolk Virginia to Bermuda the last 10 days of November and first week of December. I will be in the eastern Caribbean between Saint Martin and the British Virgin Islands through January and February. There’s a multi week opportunity to both cruise and do a short five day passage to the Bahamas at the end of February and first week of March. I will then be cruising throughout the Exuma’s in the Bahamas ( which were not damaged by the hurricanes) as well as the southern out islands of the Bahamas through April and May. Last week inMay and early June Oh! will be making a passage to Beaufort North Carolina to prepare for the transatlantic passage to the Azores in late June and early July. There will be further opportunities to cruise the Azores to Portugal and Gibraltar the Canary Islands during the summer of 2020 and finally a westbound transatlantic passage back to Martinique in the late fall of 2020. If you would like to be part of the adventure contact Rod Morris by email at This is a repeat of the Caribbean and Atlantic circuits that I completed over the last two years; 10 articles from those circuits are available in the Bluewater Currents magazine, or from my website

Crew wanted - Transatlantic USA to Europe 0 P. Brownrigg Recently bought, and fitted out for offshore, a 1999 Hallberg Rassy 46. She is moored near Annapolis (Chesapeake) and having final preparations made. My wife is not ready for an ocean crossing so looking for crew that has offshore experience and is VERY easy to get along with. I am easy going except for safety issues. Although I have a fair amount of coastal experience in various countries I have not been offshore and have been away from sailing for about 20 years. I have done a lot of the work on this boat myself or assisted the trades in getting her ready for her shakedown cruise and then offshore. This is not a paid crew position. It is an opportunity to share in an adventure and add another voyage to the resume. ETD, weather permitting, is mid Sept Route: Northerly above the north atlantic high and then down the east side of the high to the Azores then assess the best route and landfall options - probably Gibraltar or, time permitting and interest of crew, visit interesting ports as heading north towards the English Channel then land in Southampton. Cost sharing for consumables and cruising costs only.  Anyone interested should e-mail at Paul Brownrigg SV Oneiro

Local Crewing Opportunity 0 Y. Harwood Ostara, my 2003, Tartan 3700 is moored in Point Roberts.  I live in Richmond and have been a BCA Member for many years.  I would like to hear from you if you are interested in accompanying me for local cruising adventures.  Some sailing experience is preferable but not mandatory. Ostara is set up for single-handing but I am in my early 70's and deem it prudent to have at least one other person aboard. You may contact me at  Thank you for your interest. Cheers, Yvonne

Boat shipping 2 C. Smith Thanks Rae. Sailing it is not an option at this point. We shipped ours but, you're right - one needs time to spare as our ship was late arriving in Golfito and the date couldn't be confirmed until a few days before. They break down and get hung up in other ports. Our first booking in fact was cancelled and we had to start all over again....while sitting in Golfito. It's great when it arrives here, though.
