I'm always on the lookout for new gadgets for my galley. What are your top 3 "can't live without" galley gadgets?

Okay, so I think my 3 most useful tools in the galley are:

1) the Venturi, which takes a $10 bottle of wine and quickly turns it into an enjoyable  experience. Apparently now sold for $20 at Costco. Mine was a gift and at that time  we liked it so much we purchased one for the Katie G as well.

2) 4 different size cutting boards. 2 wood, 2 plastic  . need lots as they get used for many things besides food.

3) Stainless bowls that fit together for soaking veggies in Microdyne as well as all the obvious.

We loved our silicone bakeware - doesn't rust, doesn't rattle, doesn't need a trivet when placed on the table, plus you can use it as padding between your other pots'n'pans.

A cheese slicer, the kind with the piano wire strung on a handle, is also great.  One less sharp knife that can fly about :-)

visit Daiso, the japanese 'dollar' store in richmond (most items $2).

they have a huge selection of tiny cute galley ware from japan for cheap.

their folding draining rig for dishes is a fave for us.

note: you usually have to figure out wht items are on your own, the labels are in japanese ;)

Favourite galley gadgets:

1)  Stacking pots - take up no room, were cheap and are better than our more expensive ones at hom

2)  Lemon and garlic presses.  Great for drinking and cooking.

3)  My wife! And I'll pay for this comment.

Where do I start?! Inverter to run small electric appliances; electric coffee grinder; insulated coffee carafe; Cuisinart 4-cup food-processor; Ikea cheese grater (plastic container c/w coarse and fine graters and a plastic lid); lemon zester; digital oven timer; stacking mixing bowls; whisks of various sizes; good quality pots and pans; silicone bake ware.

 Whoops...that's more than 3 favourites....

We got an EasiYo yoghurt  maker (on Amazon.com) and its great!  It cost about $35 for the unit and less than $5 for a package of mix that makes a litre of yogurt.  All you need to do is add water and 8-12 hours later you have yogurt.  While cruising, its nice not to have to fill the fridge with bulky cartons of yogurt.  We eat if almost everyday for breakfast, and its handy for sauces, dips. etc.

When we left for off shore we too had an electric yogurt maker.  We abandoned it when we figured out how easy it is to make yogurt using stainless steel thermoses.  Just heat up the milk to near boiling, cool the milk to 45 deg. C., pour boiling water into the thermoses (we do two at a time), drain the boiling water and add the milk.  Put in a tablespoon or zoo of active yogurt and leave this for about 6 hours.  If you are in a cold climate like ours, I wrap the thermoses with a towel so they stay warm.  In the tropics there is no need for this last step.  Great yogurt every time!
