BCA August Rendezvous

The 2016 August Rendezvous returns to Newcastle Island Marine Provincial Park for a fun-filled BC Day weekend. This year, BCA peeps get together to celebrate Seamanship, Hollywood style! So, think safety at sea … think Gilligan’s Island… All Is Lost…Captain Ron... you name it! There is a dock at the park, but space is limited. There are many mooring balls in the harbour and you can also anchor. Prices for the dock and mooring balls are on the Park's website.

Mark your calendars for the second of four BCA Rendezvous in 2016!  Hosted by the Vancouver Chapter, the August Rendezvous this year is all about Seamanship.

BCA peeps will be spending the weekend celebrating Seamanship, Hollywood style!  So, think safety at sea … think Gilligan’s Island… All Is Lost…Captain Ron... you name it, and dress-up as your favourite character from a sailing/boating movie or TV show. There will be prizes for the two best costumes (individual or group)!  In the meantime, dig up your best potluck recipe and be prepared for a great weekend full of activities and fun.

Here’s the rough plan for the weekend. Details will be in your welcome package:

  • Check in with host boat Counting Stars anytime after noon on Saturday, receive your welcome package and pay the $5.00 per person fee
  • Welcome Appie Hour at group picnic area Saturday evening
  • Stay for movie night on Saturday: feature presentation - All is Lost
  • Breakfast at group picnic area Sunday morning
  • Floating lunch, seamanship/water activities on Sunday
  • Potluck dinner: bring a side dish or salad AND appetizer or dessert to the potluck. BCA Vancouver Chapter is providing the roast beef!
  • Come dressed-up in your costume and gather at the group picnic area Sunday evening to enjoy the potluck dinner, the Leavers’ Packages presentations and the award of the Peterson Cup.
  • Bring your own musical instrument for the infamous BCA sea-shanty sessions
  • Breakfast and check out Monday morning

All members are invited, even if you do not have a boat yet.  Camping is allowed on Newcastle Island, so be ready to pitch your tents, or your kids’ tents for that matter!   There is room for 15 tents for free – first come, first serve.

If you would like to attend but don't have a boat, or if you have a boat and would like some crew, please write a post on the Rendezvous Event forum; it would be great if people can connect and make arrangements to travel together.

Please RSVP (look for "RSVP for this event" above) by July 22 (so we know how much meat to get).

We ask that you bring your own plates, napkins and cutlery to all events. Garbage removal is available on site. Alcohol consumption is permitted on the group picnic site. Please be responsible and respectful.
