Join us for this unique opportunity to learn two critical elements of boating: docking and anchoring. These are perceived to be two stressful boating activities, critical to a safe, enjoyable, boating experience. We will cover theory and provide some dock line handling and demonstrations.

Docking and Anchoring
For Women By Women

Course Information:  This course will cover theoretical and practical considerations for Docking and Anchoring your vessel.   We will also have a full keel vessel available for students to learn and practice line handling.  Special attention will be given to communications and protocol during, what we may currently experience as stressful activities, docking and anchoring to encourage calm knowledgeable exchanges.

We will also cover the effective of wind and current, approach to docks and anchorages, strategies for anchoring in crowded or limited anchorages, stress, communications as well as full keel and fin keel considerations, amongst other subjects.  We will also discuss the importance of knowing the unique handling characteristics of your vessel, how and why.  Please bring your questions and come prepared to learn!

The instructor is also willing to arrange private demonstrations on your vessel to practice the concepts for both docking and anchoring, at an hourly rate of $50/hr.  This can be arranged in a group or individual setting but must be arranged for a later mutually agreeable date and time.  Students will be in a safe supportive environment with a trained and experienced instructor.  

Prerequisites and Materials: Students should have some experience on-board, previous docking or anchoring is an asset, but not necessary.

About the Instructor: Canadian Yachting and International Yachting certified with 20 years of sailing and offshore experience. Marla specializes in team building for new skippers and crews as well as women's only sailing lessons. Marla organizes international sailing vacations and flotillas. She also welcomes the opportunity to work with couples, typically first-time boaters who have recently purchased the boat of their dreams.  Marla is proficient as both coach and instructor, ensuring safe sailing, docking and anchoring.

BCA Members: $75 

Non-members: $100

(Private lessons for docking and anchoring, to be arranged separately with the instructor at $50/hr)

Maximum Class Size: 12 participants

Lunch: Bring your own lunch. There will not be time to take a formal break, to ensure all elements are covered.
