Rigging Essentials

With Steve White

Course Information:  Steve has been on the coast sailing, inspecting, recommending and installing rigging for 40 years.   His easy manner and deep experience will make this an informative course that gives you the breathing room to ask questions and delve into detail.    During this day long  course, Steve will cover the following subjects:   Preparation for a long cruise including, inspections (what to look for and how to be proactive), upgrades needed to ensure smooth sailing, and repair supplies that are essential to handle the unexpected.    He will also address maintenance on your rigging including furling, standing and running rigging, as well as winches.

Though we all try to prevent the unexpected, Steve will guide you in repair techniques on the fly.  Experience talks as Steve relates stories their implications, how to be proactive to prevent unnecessary challenges and what to do when it does.

He will also address rigging options and applications throughout the day.

Prerequisites and Materials: None

About the Instructor:   Steve White began his racing career on Mirror dinghies as a child on the Prairies.  He moved to Vancouver in high school and continued racing, which soon led to his getting a job as Operations Manager for Blue Water Yachts.  He commissioned many racing and cruising boats for them before starting his own business, Total Yacht Rigging.  He continued racing at the same time and gained experience internationally

He is well respected throughout the industry and was invited to manage Pacific Spar in the mid 80's.  When they were bought out by Pro-Tech Yacht Services his experience and skills expanded to include fabrication in stainless and aluminum, which also meant broadening his horizons to encompass powerboats.

In 2005 he launched out on his own again as Steve White Rigging and remains one of the most skilled and well-respected yacht riggers in the Pacific Northwest.
