This course will give relevant insights into passage making.  With practical knowledge and deep experience, the Gillstrom’s will bring you closer to your own successful passages whether within local waters or across oceans.  With knowledge comes confidence allowing you to better understand how to mitigate risk and more confidently extend your cruising world.

Passage Making will cover: the psychology of passage making, pros and cons of hull shapes, deck layouts, sail plans & rigs as well as navigational aids, electronics, communications systems, safety & survival.  Over the two days you will learn about weather basics such as air movement, global patterns, highs and lows and forecasting as well as tides and currents.  Sail dynamics will be covered to understand force, balance and trim.

The course will guide you through passage planning helping you understand important considerations to mitigate risk and give you insights into physical and mental limitations.  The Gillstom’s will take you through clearances, special documentation and restrictions to help you plan for the unexpected.   This is a fun, engaging and comprehensive two days that will make you a better sailor and prepare you to extend your sailing reach.
