About the Adventure Talk

Two different continents... mirrored coastlines... the same but different. During their recent years revisiting their home cruising grounds of BC and exploring up to SE Alaska, Amanda and Barry Glickman were struck by the parallels in flora, fauna, geography and geology with the coast of southern Chile. They called the waters between Puerto Montt and Puerto Williams home for 4 years, aboard their sailing vessel S/V Darwin’s Passage. Like a time warp back a few hundred years, the waters of southern Chile were somehow left behind in another time period, more remiss of a time just post contact along our northern shores here in British Columbia and Alaska.

About The Speakers

Barry and Amanda have been sailing together for two decades with passages including Alaska, Central and North BC Coast, Vancouver Island, Sea of Cortez Mexico, Caribbean, Panama, Galapagos, Easter Island, Chile, Argentina, Cape Horn, South Shetland Islands, Falkland Islands, Black Sea, Turkey, Greece, Italy and Malta. Aboard S/V Darwin’s Passage they explored the South American route of Charles Darwin… backwards. Before returning to Canada, they swapped to a smaller vessel, the 12 metre S/V Papa Rumba, which they explored the eastern Mediterranean with before bringing her home to Cortes Island and exploring the BC and Alaskan coastlines. For the past 3 years they have been heavily involved with Emergency Radio Communications, using S/V Papa Rumba as a training platform and mobile station during exercises.

Scientists by training, they both believe strongly in the sharing of experiences to benefit those planning to sail offshore, or those longing to learn more.
