Personal data viewable to outsiders on BCA Forum Posts
The old BCA Message Forum that we were all used to for years was only visible to BCA Members. The new website Forum is viewable to any person in the world with a web browser. That means any personal data like email addresses, phone numbers or addresses for rentals while out cruising will be visible to the public. I hope this changes soon but until it does please be aware of this change. Bottom line: Any personal data you put into any post you enter is viewable to the outside world. Your own personal data in your profile and Member Search content is still safe behind the BCA firewall.

Hi Tom...

To be clear it is my understanding that members' info (email, postal, phone numbers) attached to each member's profile are NOT viewable by outsiders who visit the site. ONLY the information that you would post in a message would be. Maybe Ian Clark can confirm this.

So your personal info is perfectly safe as long as you don't disclose it in a post or otherwise. Only members have access to that information through proper registration and up to date membership.

So unlike the old website this is open to the world and who knows... new members. Not a bad thing at all.

cheers

JB

Yes JB is completely correct, personal information such as phone numbers and email addresses are only visible to logged in BCA members and NOT to all site visitors.  The exception would be personal info the member adds on their own to their posting.  Also only members may make posts to the Forum.

Tom perhaps you could clarify this in your other posts on this topic?

Ian and JB I agree with what you both are saying. If you look at the subject of my original post you will see I am only talking about personal data contained within posts in the Forum. Any personal data a BCA member adds into their post IS viewable to anyone doing a Google search. I never said personal data about the members themselves outside of what is in their post is visable. I believe a message should go out to the general membership saying that content of any post is viewable to the outside world. It never was like this in the old website Message Forum and BCA members need to be alerted to this danger so they don't expose their personal data.
