Taking your Dingy out of the country 1 S. Muirhead None that I have ever seen or experienced. I counsel against a name on the dingy that will indicate what boat it came from. It might advertise to would be thieves that the boat is unoccupied if the dingy with the same name is ashore.J-G, SV Gosling

Power to get a 11ft Avon to plane 5 J. Baillargeon The difference between 9.8 and 15 is night and day if you are carrying more than one big person often and for far.  I weight 250 and my wife 100 and we can plane as well as I would wish and travel fast, but putting anyone heavier in the bow results in a slow rise to a marginal plane. My buddy has a 15 on a similar dinghy and neither of us is tiny, but we can go as fast as one would care to.  Wrestling the 15 onto the dinghy is a job though. My Nissan 9.8 is much easier to manhandle from the stern rail to the dinghy than a 15 and has more pep than one person needs, but if you carry much and go far, the 15 is the ticket.
