Instant Updates and Using the New Web Site

Have been wondering why I have not seen many Bluewater Conversations lately and realized that I need to subscribe to them on the new web site. Does everyone know this and should there be a general communication go out to all members on how to set up their profiles again. Including turning on features like this?

Hi

Yes I discovered that as well.. It seems you have to go and click subscribe to each individual forum you would like to follow. A simple «subscribe to all» button would've done the job easily. Poor design there.

subscription to forums
It is unfortunate that there is not a subscribe to all feature on the website.     We could run a mass update that would subscribe all members to all forums but am hesitant to do that.  I think for now, the best course of action is education such as an article in Currents, an email to members  or perhaps a mini presentation at Club Night.

It is unfortunate that we seem to have lost the message board feature of the old website. I want to see every post that members make and I want the Fleet to see them. There is a great deal of interesting information in these comments, questions and replies that is missed unless one is following all threads. Sometimes an interesting and important  topic comes up that previously one had no interest in. It will be missed.

Previously it was possible to send a message to the whole membership. It doesn't seem possible now.

Accessing Forums

I will be giving short Power Point presentations at Van Isle Club Nights on accessing the website.  My first presentation was on accessing Courses and Registering for Courses.  This month I am preparing a presentation on accessing Forums.  My club night audience includes both members and non members so there will be something for both.  The first was well received and this may turn into a "series" as there is much to explain.

I can only guess and play with it but can anyone tell me what the "permalink" button does.  It appears to the left of the "Report" and "Reply" buttons.

New Website Forum "How -To" document

Below is a re-post of a link to a document I put in the BCA Website FAQ Forum on 3/17/2013. This can be useful for those that cannot make it to Don Craigmyle's Power Point presentation on Vancouver Island this month.

A New Website Forum "How -To" document can be found here This document explains how to work within the new website Forum and how it differs from the old Message Board we were used to.
