Ham Basic Radio License Course

Offered by the North Shore Amateur Radio Club

Starts January 10, 2015           North Shore Emergency Management Office

Course Description:

This course offered by NSARC will cover basic ham radio regulations, procedures, safety, circuit components, antennas, radio waves and practice. The course concludes with the Industry Canada Exam on the final day.   Students must attain over 80% on the written exam in order to qualify for HF privileges. Students will be expected to study between course days. Course cost includes a study book and lesson slides, coffee and snacks, as well as NSARC membership.

Once licensed, students will be able to use ham frequencies to participate in the many ham marine nets and will also be able set up ham skeds with shore-based radio operators while on ocean passages.


This course will be taught be Chief Instructor Tom Dunn (VE7TD) and his team of very experienced instructors.


Classroom sessions held on six Saturday mornings starting January 10, 2015.

There will be occasional afternoon practicums that are informal, practical sessions with hands-on demonstrations and discussions using the equipment in the North Shore Emergency Management Office radio room.

Time:                9:15 am – 12:45 pm

                          8:45 am on January 10 registration check in day

Cancellation Fee:

There will be a $15 cancellation fee if a student withdraws before the course starts.
